ASIAL awards celebrate NDY security expertise on New Bendigo Hospital
NDY was nominated in the category of Outstanding Security Consultant at the 2017 ASIAL Awards for the security solution provided for the New Bendigo Hospital (NBH). Appointed by the Victorian Government as part of the successful Exemplar Health consortium* to design, build and operate the hospital, NDY provided a range of engineering services including high-end security solutions.
THE 22nd annual Australian Security Industry Awards for Excellence were held in Melbourne on 19 October, and according to ASIAL CEO, Bryan de Caires, “the awards recognise the industry’s role in protecting Australian society from security threats and commitment to excellence. The high standard of entries continues to raise the bar each year and is a credit to all entrants, finalists and winners.”
Since its official opening in January 2017, NBH is widely lauded as an outstanding new regional hospital. The expanded capacity of the hospital, including an integrated regional cancer centre and new psychiatric inpatient facility, makes NBH truly world-class.
NDY’s security role for NBH was to design the overall security and asset protection concept. This complemented NDY’s engineering designs for Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Fire Protection, Communications, Audio Visual, Sustainability, Specialist Lighting and Vertical Transportation Services. NDY’s extensive knowledge of the base building services informed a more integrated security system. The security design addressed the vulnerabilities and limitations of the space, right from the initial design phase.
To deliver optimal outcomes for NBH, NDY undertook a series of security reference groups with the users of each department and functional area. This assisted to identify the risks that were common across the entire healthcare campus. This included the Emergency area, Paediatric areas, Mental Health areas, Pharmacy and/or drug storage/ dispensing areas and car parks, which all had particular security concerns that needed to be addressed.
This investigation allowed NDY to have in depth knowledge of how the spaces would function at the operational stage by people who would be using the spaces as part of their daily responsibilities.
NDY’s work scored highly with the ASIAL judges, coming in a close second in the category of Outstanding Security Consultant Award. NDY representatives Afiz Jabbar and Ashley Marriott accepted the award.
