NDY was instrumental in Motorola being awarded a LEED India SILVER rating for its new manufacturing facility in Chennai.

Motorola Complex is a new electronics assembly facility, located on a 70 acres allotment at Sungavar Sathram, Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, India. The building is 21,000 m² in size. It comprises of an office area, entry lobby, IT room, canteen and distribution/amenities rooms.

NDY was engaged as the LEED consultant by Leighton India who built the complex. The LEED evaluation involved thermal modelling, which was carried out in line with ASHRAE 90.1 requirements. As this was the first ‘factory’ complex to be rated, the Indian Green Building Council involved the US Green Building Council as peer reviewers. This provided unusual challenges, including provision of detailed reports in metric as well as imperial units.

The outcome was particularly satisfying given that when the decision to seek the rating was made, construction had already commenced and the design was essentially complete.
