Fire Engineering

Our specialist fire engineering team understands all issues associated with designing effective fire engineered solutions in new and existing buildings; transport, power and communications infrastructure; hospitals and aged care; and Defence establishments, across the globe.

NDY avoids taking a prescriptive approach to fire engineered solutions. Prescriptive legal and regulatory requirements are often conservative and applied on a discrete basis, not considering the holistic building design and safety systems incorporated. By adopting an all-encompassing approach, the fire engineered design is fully integrated to the holistic building solution. This results in improved and cost effective designs, integrated solutions, both from capital cost and ongoing maintenance perspectives, which do not comprise the life safety of building occupants, the fire brigade, or property protection.

NDY works closely with the full project team, including architects, project managers, mechanical and electrical engineers,  fire protection services and structural engineers at the early stages of a project. This ensures that building concepts are developed and presented to the client, end users and the relevant approval authorities prior to the completion of detailed designs.

We assess: fire ratings; smoke containment and exhaust; egress provisions and travel distances; occupant behaviour in fire; fire detection and alarm systems; emergency warning systems; smoke hazard management; fire control and suppression; fire loads and fire brigade access.

Our experience and capability extends to all types of buildings, infrastructure and systems including, commercial, retail, residential, heritage, atria, transport facilities and uniquely designed buildings.

By considering the interaction of a building and its occupants and through the use of the latest computer software, NDY provides our clients with customised and cost-effective fire engineered solutions that maximise the building design and satisfy all legislative requirements.
