Brisbane team recycling for charity
The NDY Brisbane team is broadening the capacity for recycling to pay it forward in three ways.
NDY senior associate Connan Brown has taken the capacity of recycling from landfill reduction and repurposing disused materials and extended this to raise funds for some of the world’s poorest communities. “A presentation earlier in the year by sustainability specialists Nicki Parker and Shelly Kenning really got me thinking” said Connan; “it is only a minor tweak to the recycling we are already doing but hopefully we can generate some cash for worthy causes”.
By registering for the Qld Government Container Refund initiative, Connan and his Brisbane colleagues are now collecting used containers and bottles in the office and recycling these through refund centres. The state-wide container refund scheme gives people an incentive to collect and return containers for recycling, in exchange for a 10 cent refund payment per item.
“We’ve also invited staff to continue this initiative from home via local collection centres,” says local Charitable Trust representative John McIntosh, “whereby all monies raised within the office and from our homes will then be deposited within the NDY Charitable Trust to be donated to one of our supported charities.”
