The Origin Energy Darling Downs Power Station, operational from July 2010, is Australia’s largest combined cycle power station and also one of the cleanest baseload power stations in terms of carbon emissions.

The power station produces approximately 20% less greenhouse gas emissions compared to a typical power station and only 2-3% of the water consumption due to the use of air cooled condensers.

Three natural gas fired turbines fed from coal seam gas reserves and a steam turbine powered by gas turbine exhaust heat combine to give a total of 630 MW of output which is enough to supply around 400,000 homes.

The turbine building, which is the largest building on site at approximately 10,500 m², is split into the steam turbine section comprising of three levels and the single level, albeit 20 m high, gas turbine section.

NDY reviewed the services of the Main Turbine Building, designed by CH2M Hill, to provide RPEQ certification of BCA Compliance for project approval.
